LIGHT RAIL PROJECT
The Portland Mall MAX Light Rail Project will connect Clackamas County, one of the region’s fastest growing areas, with downtown Portland.
The expansion of light rail has been identified as a critical part of a growing transportation system that will be needed to accommodate an expected one million new residents in the region by 2030.

After nearly 30 years, the Portland Mall is ready for renovation that will help revitalize 5th and 6th avenues for riders and businesses, and bring MAX light rail service through the heart of downtown from Union Station to Portland State University.
Renovations include refurbished streets and intersections, increased lighting, new trees, new art and new transit shelters and signage. During construction, all buses must be removed temporarily from 5th and 6th avenues.
