This project will create frontage improvements at Jefferson High School to better meet the needs of the school and surrounding neighbors.

Designs will be compatible with the Killingsworth Streetscape Improvements project.

Next steps

We are working with Portland Public Schools on developing a time table for review and establishing a time table for construction drawings.

Project Goals and Objectives
  • Stronger connection between PCC and Jefferson High School.
  • Develop visual connection to Jefferson HS north elevation.
  • Consider “festival streets” along N. Kerby Ave. and  Commercial.
  • Security concerns: Match wrought iron gate from Mult Co. library.
  • Consider entrance off of Killingsworth to access the school.
  • Provide new sign with readerboard to announce events & programs.
  • Provide attractive landscaping as ground cover along Killingsworth.
  • Review educational district along Killingsworth; 4 schools in the area.
  • Promote joint use of the track.
  • Fences are key at access points; protect the assets.
  • Neighborhood resistance to readerboard sign by PCC at Albina corner.
  • Consider security concerns; involve police and PCC.
  • Consider landscaping near the front of the school.
  • Consider a fountain; water feature.
  • Provide educational outdoor classroom; sustainable features.
  • Opportunity for art/sculpture.
  • Consider tiles along the face of retaining walls; community involvement.
  • Consider library backyard to connect to Jefferson; place to sit.
  • Bring in other elements to activate the space.
  • Consider street banners, similar to Alberta Street.
  • Promote public and joint use of the track.
