Food manufacturer expands Portland presence
June 15, 2013
One of Portland’s manufacturing leaders has announced its expanded presence in the Rivergate Industrial District.
Ajinomoto North America will hold a grand opening ceremony on July 15 to mark the expansion of the Japanese-owned headquarters facility on North Marine Drive. The event celebrates the opening of Ajinomoto’s recently expanded research and development center and a new office for its consumer foods division.
The company, which manufactures pre-prepared appetizers, snacks and entrees, is one of the region’s most successful businesses, and in 2010 received the Mayor’s International Business Award for foreign direct investment. It is one of Japan’s most recognized food brands.
Ajinomoto’s presence in Portland continues to grow with the relocation of AJINA offices formerly in Torrance, California. In addition to the existing frozen foods plant at Rivergate, the company will now integrate its shelf-stable foods business in Portland. The new facility will allow Ajinomoto to continue to develop new foods for the American consumer based on quality ingredients available here in Oregon.
Haruo Kurata, Senior Vice President, Ajinomoto North America, credits the city’s work in creating infrastructure and a positive business climate that facilitated the company’s expansion here.
